Garden City Hotel Cares

The Garden City Hotel Cares As a host, neighbor, community activist and employer, we recognize that our operations impact the environment. As a result, we have instituted sustainable business practices throughout our organization. Responsible action through culinary, philanthropic, ecological and workplace initiatives is integral to our dedication to excellence. We are firmly committed to these principals and are working to continually enhance our program, our procedures and our impression on the environment. We are dedicated to maintaining a socially responsible enterprise for the benefit of our guests, community, staff and neighbors.

Sustainable Culinary Initiatives

From respectful sourcing practices to the use of organic ingredients, we are committed to sustainability. As advocates of the slow food movement, we are cognizant of the deep connections between plate, planet, people and culture. Our menus change seasonally and utilize locally sourced produce, seafood and meats from trusted purveyors such as Hawthorne Valley Farm in Hudson Valley, NY. Additionally, an on-premise herb garden provides organic bounty and aids in lowering our carbon footprint. These values also translate to our wine program, which is populated with local, organic and biodynamic selections. We believe that it is our responsibility to take the necessary steps to continually reduce the hotel's impact on the local environment.

Philanthropic We are committed to our community. Our respect for the importance of healthy food extends to helping those who need it most, the hungry and homeless in our community. Employees are invited to volunteer at the Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) Soup Kitchen in Hempstead, NY during their workday. Other staff led iniatives include participation in an annual Employee Blood Drive and the sale of American Cancer Society endorsed curios. We are also proud underwriters of the Institute for Social Research and Community Engagement (iSoRCE). This Adelphi University Foodways Research Project is dedicated to understanding and addressing Long Island's critical and enduring social issues by identifying gaps in food access and social services. We believe that the goodwill shared among our employees can also be shared within our community.

Green Hotel Operations

We are committed to protecting the natural environment. Our commitment extends to designing an efficient, eco-friendly environment by reducing waste, recycling, using biodegradable objects and conserving water. Throughout the hotel, environmentally friendly toiletries, light bulbs, coffee cups and energy-efficient Energy Star-rated appliances are utilized. We also only use organic fertilizers in both our landscaping projects and herb garden. The hotel participates in the Village of Garden City's recycling program and we are a member of the "Clean the World Program," which collects and recycles used soap, shampoo and conditioner for distribution to impoverished communities in an effort to prevent hygiene-related illness. We are mindful, every day, of what we can do for the environment.

Workplace Initiatives

We are committed to maintaining a diverse, healthy and safe working environment for those who deliver our renowned guest services, our staff. Workplace initiatives include on-site flu shots and an annual employee health and benefit fair offering blood pressure checks, chairside massages along with fitness and beauty consultations and dietary and nutritional education to promote overall well-being. Each June, we promote National Safety Month to communicate important safety information and encourage safe lifestyle choices. Our employees are our most valuable asset and our commitment to them is steadfast.

We understand that sustainability is a journey and we are involved in the ongoing process of improving our operations and conserving resources. We strive to properly educate our stakeholders, inspire and engage our employees, empower our business partners and align ourselves with our local community. It is our vision to attain long-term sustainability by providing for the needs of the present without compromising the world of the future.
