As we embark on an exciting revitalization of this historic property, and undergo a complete luxury restyling, we are looking for self motivated, driven and experienced individuals who will assist us in continuing to provide the excellent level of service for which The Garden City Hotel is known.
As part of the Fortuna Realty Group, The Garden City Hotel is part of an expanding hotel group with a current property in New York City (Hotel Indigo in Chelsea) in addition to The Garden City Hotel. We also have additional properties currently under development in New York City. Our company goal is to continue to expand by acquiring and developing assets. Food and Beverage
The Pastry Chef will supervise and coordinate the activities of cooks engaged in the preparation of desserts, pastries, confections, and ice cream. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Fine dining and banquet production of creatively decorated upscale desserts, cakes, breads and pastries; Planning production for Pastry Department according to menu or special requirements; Supplying recipes for, and suggesting methods and procedures to Pastry Cooks; Creating table and pastry decorations (such as statuaries and sugar paste and icing ornaments); Requisitioning supplies and equipment. Responsible for management of pastry staff, inventory and overall operation of pastry kitchen. Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills required.
Executive Sous Chef
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, working closely with the Executive Chef in managing all aspects of the Kitchen and Kitchen personnel, ensuring the quality preparation of all menu items and proper handling/storage of all food items in accordance with standards. Coordinate the purchase of all food and develop menus, maintaining approved food costs and labor costs. You must be an experienced culinary manager familiar with fine dining restaurants in order to be considered for this position. Candidates must have luxury hotel experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, take food and beverage orders, retrieve and serve alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages and food orders to guest tables. Ensure proper payments are received for all orders. Assist in the maintenance of the Restaurant area and equipment. Prior experience as a Server is required, preferably in a fine dining restaurant. Excellent interpersonal skills are flexibility with scheduling is required. Must be able to work early AM and PM shifts.
Polo Bus Attendant
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assist Captain, Server, Bartender and Cocktail Servers in providing quality food and beverage service to guests according to Hotel specifications, courteously and efficiently. Stock all wares and equipment needed for service. Maintain cleanliness of tables, work areas and equipment according to Hotel specifications.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, courteously greet and escort guests to tables and assist in seating, ensuring Hotel standards of service. Assist in preparing the Restaurant for service and maintaining the cleanliness of the room at all times. Take reservations and maintain reservation book, assist in monitoring the guests’ needs. Experience with 'Open Table' preferred but not required. Computer skills are required. Experience in a fine dining restaurant preferred.
Polo / Banquets Coat Check Attendant
Responsibilities of this position include providing excellent service to all guests, maintaining the security of guest's coats and personal items, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the coat check area. This is a part time / seasonal position requiring flexibility with scheduling; applicants must be available AM and PM shifts, weekends and holidays
In Room Dining Server
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Deliver food and beverage orders to guest rooms; maintain complete knowledge of all wines, champagnes, liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections; maintain complete knowledge of all menu items; ability to input and access information in the property management system/computers/point of sales system; assist in the maintenance of the Room Service area and equipment. Experience in Hotel Room Service or Fine Dining restaurant required. You must have excellent guest relations, communication and interpersonal skills. You must be flexible with scheduling.
We are currently accepting resumes for the following Culinary positions: Banquet Cook, Line Cook, Pastry Cook. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, prep, set up and provide quality service in all areas of food production for menu items and specials in designated outlets in accordance with standards and plating guide specifications. Must be able to read and follow menus and recipes. Visually inspect, select, and utilize only food items of the highest quality in the preparation of menu items. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive and Sous Chefs. Maintain organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment. Banquet Cook candidates must have high volume, Banquet experience. Flexibility with scheduling is required. Formal culinary training required.
Banquet Server (Part Time)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: set up assigned tables, retrieve and serve alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and food orders to guest tables according to Hotel specifications and group requirements, courteously and efficiently. Maintain cleanliness and condition of work areas and equipment. . Applicants should have good people skills and a pleasant personality. Must have prior Server experience in catering and or fine dining establishment. Our servers earn base pay plus lucrative gratuities.
Convention Services Houseman
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, set up designated function rooms to group's requirements in accordance with Hotel standards. Maintain cleanliness and working condition of all respective equipment, guest and service areas. Flexibility with scheduling is required. This is a guest contact position; you must have excellent interpersonal skills. Prior experience preferred.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, wash and sanitize pots, pans and other Kitchen utensils/equipment according to Hotel specifications and standards. Clean and maintain equipment in Pot washing/Dish washing/Kitchen/Cafeteria/Compactor/Storage areas. Assist in washing wares by operating the dishwashing machine. Complete other special cleaning projects as assigned. Prior dishwashing experience in restaurant/hotel or cleaning in a commercial environment will be a plus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting all guests/clients, and provide clerical/administrative support for the Catering Department and Executive Office, including typing, computer input, filing, tracing, answering telephones, printing reports and departmental records/logs. Experience with heavy duty telephone calls a must. Responsible for guest/client correspondance including contracts. Must have prior administrative experience working with executive level staff. Knowledge of OPERA and Delphi a plus. Flexibility with scheduling is required. Hotel or catering facility experience required.
Reservations Sales Agent
Reservations Sales Agents play a leading role in generating revenue for the hotel. They field nearly all inquiries for transient reservations and must convert as many of these calls as possible into confirmed reservations. After quoting rates appropriate to specific requests, they must obtain agreement from the caller and confirm a reservation. They must be able to follow sell strategy as determined by revenue management; listen and communicate effectively with a wide range of callers; close the sale; and input detailed information into the property management system (Opera), accurately and efficiently. The position is also responsible for providing overall reservations support for the hotel. They are responsible for handling group blocks and inputting rooming lists, selling gift certificates, processing travel agent commissions, and proper coding of market segments and corporate accounts. Ideal candidate will have prior experience in the travel agency or hotel industry. Must be flexible with schedules and be able to work holidays, weekends and some nights, till 9pm.
Housekeeping Room Attendant – AM and PM shifts, and Part Time Evening shifts available
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to clean guest rooms as assigned, ensuring the hotel's established standards of cleanliness. Responsible for reporting any maintenance deficiencies and handling guest requests or complaints. Ensures the confidentiality and security of all guest rooms. Complete other cleaning projects as assigned by Executive Housekeeper. Flexibility with scheduling is required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, clean and maintain all corridors, vending areas, elevators and landings, and service areas on guest room floors, ensuring hotel's standards of cleanliness. Provide linen & glass supplies for Room Attendants and stock floor closets. Deliver and retrieve items requested by guests and Floor Supervisor. Complete other cleaning projects as assigned by Executive Housekeeper. Flexibility with scheduling is required.
Guest Service Agent
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, check-in/check-out hotel guests courteously and efficiently; process all payments according to established hotel requirements; provide information and assistance to all guests and visitors; provide prompt, courteous and efficient handling of all requests for guest room reservations, changes, cancellations and information; provide prompt, courteous and efficient handling of all incoming calls and assistance for outgoing calls that transpire through PBX. Also play an integral part in assisting with emergencies, (fire, medical, power/system failure) by contacting the designated personnel for immediate assistance. This is a full time position that requires flexibility with scheduling. Hotel experience preferred.
Overnight Bellman/Doorman/Valet Parking, Part Time
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, acknowledge, welcome and depart all guests/visitors arriving to/from the hotel, providing assistance with guests' luggage, escort guests to rooms and inform guests of all hotel services and features; drive, park and retrieve guest/visitor vehicles as they arrive and depart from the hotel. Applicants must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and must have experience driving manual and automatic transmissions. Working conditions include, but are not limited to, being exposed to all weather conditions and standing for extended periods of time. Responsible for attending to immediate needs of each guest upon arrival and follow through attention throughout stay. You must have prior customer service experience and excellent communication skills. Flexibility with scheduling is required. Schedule includes weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays. This is an Overnight shift position.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, repair, maintenance, upkeep and replacement of the property's cosmetic materials (interior/exterior painting, patching of woodwork and furniture refinishing), in accordance with hotel standards. Will also assist in other areas of Engineering as assigned. This position requires standing/moving/lifting heavy objects during the entire shift. This is a guest contact position; excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. You must be flexible with scheduling.
